The characters are all great of course, but for instance, the story in memories of celceta or Ys 7 was much more compelling. Its strong in the context of other RPGs, but it just isnt an amazing story imo. I never said the story sucked, I just feel that in the context of other Ys titles it is fairly weak. On the NA version, NISA confirmed that they will not be adding it. Sigh, on the Japanese version the some of the content did get added and Falcon confirmed that they will be adding the rest later down the line. The Vita in Japan however, did get some of that DLC already and will be getting all of it later. The PSVita version of the game in the NA does not get the content that was released with the playstation 4 special edition (which is what the PC and the NA PS4 version are based on). There is a reason why I made the distinction of the Japanese version of the game. Originally posted by Nope:He's right, all the DLC for vita from japan version is on the english version, except the extra content though (extra stories, dungeon, feature and items), those are exclusive to ps4/pc version Most companies dislike making ports because they aren't working on something new and have to go back into their old code to get it to run. At least this is the case with most ports porting a game the size of Ys 8 should not be much more difficult then porting a game the size of Disgaea (actually Disgaea would have been larger and possibly more difficult). When they do get bugs they will mostly be with the engine or the driver backend and not with the actual game assets. (i've done port work myself on smaller games.). They mostly deal with the hardware compatability and gettng the source code to build on the new device aka using the GCC or the MSVC etc. Well the graphics aren't so much of an issue when you are just porting a complete product from one device to another. Ys VIII is their first major-scale project. But they've also been dealing mostly in less graphically-intensive games, like strategy RPGs or 2D puzzle platformers. Originally posted by Professor Icepick:After the debacle with the first Disgaea PC port (which was eventually fixed), they've been pretty good. Now, I don't really play Ys games for the story (not that they have bad stories, they just aren't typically the most story heavy games) and even without the bad subing, the Ys 8's story is on the weak side compared to most of the other games in the series.Īll of that being said, I really can't wait to replay this game on my PC with all of the graphics cranked up to max. I didn't look at the english dub because I can't suffer that kind of pain, but I would assume that they used a similar script for the subtitles and the dubs. ![]() There were moments where the subtitles were almost incomprehensable and would have just been unintelligable if not for the Japanese voice actors. As some one who can speak japanese I can honestly say that NISA really dropped the ball here in particular during the Dana sections. While I played the Japanese version a friend of mine had the NISA NA version and I asked to borrow it so that I could see what the transation was like (this is after he told me it was really bad). There is a plethora of really cool new mechanics and side stories and the world of Ys 8 almost feels like an Open world despite the load screens. ![]() The music is bad ass and the game looks fantastic even on a small little vita screen with lower resolutions. Also, they finally added real platforming back into the series while still perserving the party system and the dodge and block system. If you liked any of the pervious Ys games then you will like this game easily (I've played and beaten every single Ys game except for the non-falcon non-cannon games). First, lets just say, this game is fantastic.
